Prince Sultan bin Salman signs a memorandum of understanding between the Center and the Human Rights Commission

His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research, stressed the importance of the Kingdom assuming a global leadership position in the field of the rights of persons with disabilities, when God Almighty thanked it for making it the country of the Two Holy Mosques and the place of revelation. The great support that the cause finds has been provided by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God protect him - who, for more than 35 years, has been adopting the issues of this segment, following them up, and ensuring their service.

His Highness said in a press statement following the signing of the joint memorandum of understanding between the Center and the Human Rights Commission, which was signed by His Highness and His Excellency the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, Dr. Bandar bin Muhammad Al-Aiban, “The signing of this agreement comes as a culmination of years of effective and fruitful partnership between the King Salman Center for Disability Research and the Human Rights Commission.” Human rights, and this memorandum aims for joint coordination and cooperation between the Human Rights Commission and the Center in light of the competencies of each party to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities and achieve the best levels in this field, including contributing to the review and development of systems, regulations and procedures related to the rights of persons with disabilities in accordance with for regular procedures.
His Highness pointed out that the King Salman Center for Disability Research and the Society for Disabled Children, under the guidance and follow-up of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God protect him - were the first to adopt and support the issue of disability and establish legislation regulating it, until the establishment of the Authority for the Care of Persons with Disabilities. Which is based on a rich base of governmental, charitable and civil practice and experiences over more than three decades, in which the efforts of these parties have integrated to meet the needs of this group.

He stated that the King Salman Center for Disability Research has several programs and research targeting the category of people with disabilities, who need care and attention to enable them to integrate into society in a way that suits them, including the comprehensive access program that came from the disabled care system, pointing out that the center adopted the program. The National Center for Early Screening of Newborns to detect metabolic diseases that cause disability. Early screening was applied to the majority of the Kingdom’s hospitals, which amounted to more than 167 hospitals, and the number of newborns examined reached more than one million newborns.

His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research, stated that the Center is implementing this program in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, and all other health sectors in the Kingdom, and aims to detect 20 hereditary diseases that lead to It leads to mental retardation and severe medical conditions, some of which lead to death if not detected and treated early, and many other national programs.

His Highness added that the sponsorship of the Human Rights Commission and the King Salman Center for Disability Research for this precious group and for all other groups of society comes within the programs and initiatives that have been sponsored and sponsored by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God protect him - since he adopted their cause and presented many programs and projects that It serves their cause and empowers them economically, socially and intellectually, based on the importance of scientific research specialized in disability research, and in confirmation of his vision - may God support him - that the issue of disability and its social and economic repercussions constitute one of the most important challenges facing contemporary societies. He also supported - may God protect him - the idea of establishing the Center’s Founders Association. He was the first to support and join its membership, and he was followed - may God support him - in joining by 110 founding members from the people of this generous nation, including individuals, companies, banks, associations, charitable institutions, banks, and families.

For his part, His Excellency the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, Dr. Bandar Al-Aiban, expressed his deep appreciation to His Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman for the great efforts he is making in the field of protecting and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities. This was not just born today, but rather has a bright history and a record lined with gold for more than more than 30 years, especially when the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God protect him - ordered the establishment of this very important center, not only in its uniqueness in disability research, but in its being one of the first centers in our region to carry out this important humanitarian work.

His Excellency stated that signing the memorandum of understanding with the Center comes within the complementary partnerships undertaken by the Authority to cooperate in various fields related to enriching knowledge about disability and people with disabilities, their issues and rights, spreading community awareness about them, exchanging experiences and advice, and preparing joint studies and research in the relevant fields of disability.

His Excellency appreciated the effective participation of the King Salman Center for Disability Research during the meetings held at the Human Rights Council to review the Kingdom’s report on the Convention, which was praised and agreed upon by all members of the committee, and they pointed out that these best practices undertaken by the Kingdom should benefit the international community.

His Excellency Dr. Al-Aiban added: “This center must have arms and communication at the international level so that it goes beyond the geography of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the regional and international level as quickly as possible, especially with the wars and crises that societies unfortunately suffer from, resulting in many disabilities.”
